From a small business to a leader in the field.

The Zelenka translation agency was founded in 1990 as a small family business. It had three employees, so the whole company fit into just one office room. As the number of customers and completed translations grew, so did the number of employees. Today, we are the fourth largest translation agency in Eastern Europe. Yet we have never forgotten why we were founded and what our goal has been from the beginning – to help people and businesses overcome language barriers. We succeed in this because we have always upheld values such as fairness, openness and respect.

The Key Factors of Our Growth

Two other important aspects without which we would not have achieved anything are hard work and the effort to push ourselves and the entire field of translation forward. We actively keep up with modern technologies, but we also don’t just implement every hot new trend right away. We always carefully think it through, test it and consider whether it would truly benefit our customers. This way, they can be sure that when we recommend something, we 100% know what we are doing.

One clear example of our approach is the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) into the translation process. Online translators were a big hit at the time, and everyone was talking about machine translation. But instead of just talking, we were working. We tested and trained our own machine translation system and only offered it to customers once we were sure the quality of the translations we provide would not suffer. Quality is absolutely essential for us. Now we can offer a service that saves our partners both time and money, and one that we are proud to stand behind.

In the past, the pinnacle of translation technology was the typewriter. Of course, those days are long gone. The industry has undergone many changes, and we can say without exaggeration that we’ve been there for all of them. This has taught us to be flexible. Back in the day, we got rid of the typewriters and bought computers. Then when CAT tools (Computer-Assisted Translation) appeared, we embraced them. And today, we weren’t satisfied with publicly available online translators, so we trained our own – one that is of higher quality and offers incomparable guarantees in terms of information security.

We are similarly adaptable when it comes to the range of our services. It’s a necessity that we’ve turned to our advantage. After all, we only do well when our customers do well, and our needs evolve with theirs. Our people play an absolutely crucial role in our success. We put a lot of time and resources into the selection, training and ongoing education of our internal team members. We regularly participate in conferences and training sessions, and we also keep an eye on the increasingly popular webinars. We then share the knowledge we’ve gained so that we can all move forward together.

While we invest significant effort into our internal employees, our external ones are not left behind. Our translators go through a rigorous selection process, during which we verify not only their qualifications but also their actual skills through test translations. Our database only contains linguists who have convinced us of their quality. However, recruitment is just the beginning. We maintain regular contact with our linguists and diligently focus on their ongoing professional development – for example through specialised training.

The Fruits of Our Labour

Everything mentioned above would be of no use if we couldn’t put it into practice. All our activities aim toward one goal – to utilise our acquired know-how in a way that benefits our partners. We fine-tune the services we offer down to the last details, allowing us not only to meet customers' expectations but also to provide them with real added value.

We consider delivering top-quality translations to be somewhat of a given – we simply can’t do things any other way. Yet we are capable of much more. We consider the use of a variety of technologies to be a completely standard part of our work. Whenever possible, we recommend using CAT tools during translation – they marked the first major revolution in the translation industry and brought customers not only higher quality but also more affordable texts. These tools enable the integration of a terminology database, ensuring that all terminology, no matter how specific, is maintained consistently. Another undeniable advantage is that every text that has been previously translated can be reused. The system can recognise that this text has already been translated in a subsequent project and offer the linguist a suitable translation. What are the benefits? One is the consistency of texts over long periods of time, and the other is cost savings. Customers pay significantly less for parts of their texts that have already been translated.

By utilising these technologies, we have managed to save our customers up to 40% of their translation costs. This can bring financial benefits of easily thousands, and even millions. But we have gone even further. In line with today’s trends, we have started exploring artificial intelligence and its potential applications in translation. In the Czech Republic, calling yourself successful is somewhat daring. However, we are not afraid to do so, because we have several indicators that prove it. Our financial results are undoubtedly one of them. Here we can happily state that in the past year, both our revenue and profit have increased. This means we have the resources for further development and investments, from which our partners will benefit.

We’re also seeing growth in the number of translators with whom we actively collaborate. We are very happy with this, because it proves that we are a trustworthy partner for them, and it meanwhile gives us a wider portfolio of experts that we can deploy for work on projects.

What, fortunately, is not increasing, is the number of complaints. We have kept it at a very low level over many years, even though we are the only ones out there offering an unlimited time guarantee on our translations. Complaints have not exceeded 0.07% of all completed projects for years. This result only confirms what we stated above – excellent quality is the foundation of what we do.

Our stability and continuous growth as a translation agency are also evidenced by our results in the CSA Research survey. We have been in the Top 10 of their ranking since 2018, and since then, we have consistently been rising. The year 2022 marked our rise into sixth place, 2023 brought us to fifth, and this year we have officially become the fourth largest translation agency in Eastern Europe. Our rise has been gradual and thus sustainable, and it is a testament to many years of persistent work.

CSA Research is an independent American company that has been conducting primary research in global markets in the field of content and language services since 2002. Its findings are intended to promote the development of our industry and of business overall. It has earned its credibility primarily thanks to the high standards it maintains in collecting, managing, analysing and distributing aggregate data. And because the evaluation does not only consider revenue but also customer portfolios, workflows and the ability to adapt to the latest trends in the industry, it can be said that it provides truly relevant results.
