The beginning of 2026 marked a major turning point for judicial interpreting and translation in the Czech Republic. Due to the expiration of transitional periods under the new legislation (the Act on Court Interpreters and Court Translators), there has been a significant decrease in the number of registered experts in the Ministry of Justice database. What has changed in the market?

The primary reason for the decline in number of interpreters are increased requirements for professional practice. Key factors include:

• End of the transitional period: As of December 31, 2025, the deadline expired for interpreters appointed under the 1967 Act to prove their professional competence according to new, much stricter standards.
• Mandatory electronic records: The requirement to record every action in the state system in real-time and mandatory communication via data boxes discouraged some experienced experts who preferred the previous paper-based form.
• Strict state oversight: The Ministry of Justice has begun to much more rigorously monitor the quality and compliance with procedural rules, increasing the demands for precision in every translation.

In practice, this means a risk of longer delivery times for the B2B sector for specific language combinations, especially for transaction documents, notary deeds, or employment documentation for expats.

What is the situation at our company?

The new legislative conditions have also affected our network of collaborators, impacting approximately a quarter of our database in this specific segment. However, thanks to our size and long-term relationships with translators, this fact does not negatively affect our ability to deliver on our promises.
