In April, two of our colleagues from our German department – Barbora Smýkalová and Lucie Flámová – took a trip to Munich. They had arranged several meetings there with our long-standing customers. And these weren’t just courtesy visits – they opened the door for discussing opportunities to expand our cooperation into new services (e.g. voiceovers) and fields (e.g. military technology).
One fascinating aspect of the visit was getting to see firsthand the places where technical documentation is born. Now that we have a deeper understanding of the customer’s processes, we’ll be able to fine-tune our offerings and workflows to provide solutions that meet their needs and save time and costs while still emphasizing quality.
There’s simply no substitute for personal contact. Without it, we wouldn’t have been able to take our cooperation to the next level – or learn information that never comes through email or phone calls.
Through a coincidence (or rather, perfect planning), their stay in Munich overlapped with Bauma – a premier global trade fair for construction and mining machinery, tools and technologies.
We even found some of our existing customers among the exhibitors – for example, Maschinenfabrik Gustav Eirich and Baude Kabeltechnik GmbH – but our main goal was to reach out to potential new clients to whom we could start providing translations of technical documentation, contracts, marketing materials and more.
Our colleagues didn’t stop for one moment during the fair. In just two days, they managed an incredible 43 meetings. And these definitely weren’t just quick business-card exchanges – many conversations were in-depth and highly insightful.
“We were surprised by how many truly knowledgeable discussions we could have regarding translation. It’s clear that companies are genuinely interested in this area. Terminology was, without a doubt, the most passionately discussed topic,” said our Senior Business Development Manager, Barbora Smýkalová.
